Peter ‘Yak’ Yacono has always been involved in music in some way. At an early age, he participated in school musicals and sung in choirs throughout his schooling. Early on, Peter was heavily into rock, alternative and indie music – especially anything local. Some influences included Jebediah, Powderfinger, The Living End, Spiderbait, Eskimo Joe and Regurgitator - just to name a few.

Soon after, Peter was introduced to the world of dance music by a close, long time friend, [DJ MATTY VAN]. Soon after, Peter had his 20th birthday. For his party, he pre-recorded a 4hr dance set with a software mixing program; this proved to be very popular among his friends. From there, he was asked to DJ other friends parties; this eventually led him to gaining work from a wider network of friends.

It was only natural at this point that Peter took his hobby and favourite pastime and turned it into a professional career. It was also at this point where Peter, also known as ‘Yak’ to his close friends, was dubbed ‘DJ YAK’.
DJ YAK first found his feet with mobile DJing in 2003. It was there that he was able to experience and play at a wide range of parties and special events.

Today, DJ YAK has a strong passion for a wide variety of House music. His music collection and knowledge is extensive, ranging from funky and soulful house, to commercial tunes and most recently, tech and progressive house.

In early 2007, DJ YAK branched out by himself and formed DJ YAK’S MOBILE DISCO - offering a premium level mobile DJing solution for venues and parties across metropolitan Melbourne. Read about [DJ YAK’S MOBILE DISCO].
